Lost Pets

Coral Springs Animal Hospital was established by Lloyd S. Meisels, D.V.M. in September 1977.

The hospital occupied 2,500 square feet of rental space in a shopping center at the corners of Royal Palm Blvd. and University Drive in the City of Coral Springs. Since its opening, Thanks to the support and acceptance of our pet owning clientele, the Coral Springs Animal Hospital has experienced consistent and dramatic growth.

The practice which was started with just one doctor and two employees is now staffed by 33 doctors and 127 employees. We have outgrown three buildings. It is only by consistently meeting or exceeding the varying needs and desires of the large majority of the pet owning public that we have been able to achieve this astounding growth.

We are now the largest privately owned animal hospital in the state of Florida and one of the largest in the United States.

Historic Dates

Having outgrown the original rental space, the hospital was moved into a freestanding 5,165 square foot building located at 1730 University Drive. The facility won the Veterinary Economics Merit Ward for Design in 1987.

In response to pet owner demand, the practice began to add Specialty Services. Doctors who specialized in Dermatology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Behavior, and Radiology were hired over the next few years.

Due to continued and consistent growth, planning began to enlarge the building by adding a second floor. The remodeling and the expansion commenced in April 1994 and was completed in 1996. The size of the hospital building was now 7,800 square feet.

The 1996 expansion would turn out to be not nearly enough space. In February 2006, Dr. Meisels bought the Quadrangle Athletic Club Building at 2160 University Drive, and planning began to design the new hospital at that location, just four blocks to the north of the existing location.

In November of 2008 we moved into and entirely renovated 38,000 square foot building to better serve the needs of our patients and their owners.

In January of 2012 we won the 2012 Hospital of the Year Award for Excellence In Veterinary Hospital Design in the 47th annual Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Competition.

The Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Competition recognizes exceptional veterinary facilities that enhance pet owners experiences at the hospital, support top-notch veterinary care, maximize practice efficiency, and foster comfortable working conditions for veterinarians and veterinary team members, says Kristi Reimer, editor of Veterinary Economics. These award-winning facilities set the standard for cutting-edge veterinary hospital design.

Coral Springs Animal Hospital was featured as the cover story in the March 2012 issue of Veterinary Economics which reaches 58,000 practicing veterinarians in the United States and Canada.
