Acupuncture & Chinese Herbal Medicine for Dogs & Cats

What is Veterinary Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of tiny needles into specific points on the body to create certain effects. Some of these effects include pain relief, a decrease of inflammation, increased blood flow, nerve stimulation, and anti-itch amongst others. Acupuncture is an ancient form of medicine that encourages the body to promote natural healing through the stimulation of acupuncture points. Dog acupuncture is performed by our Board Certified Specialist and can be complemented with Chinese herbs for dogs. Cats can also benefit from these treatments! Acupuncture for dogs is a great way to help provide relief to your pet.

What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal medicine is the use of medicinal plants for their healing properties. They can be in the form of a single herb, or more commonly in a formula of a variety of herbs. They are administered orally and are typically given in powder form to mix with your pet’s food or in capsule form. Herbs can decrease pain and inflammation, support the immune system, improve organ function, and decrease itching amongst others. By using Chinese herbs for your dog, you can help your pet deal with a bevy of issues naturally.

If dog acupuncture (or cat) is warranted, it will be performed at the initial visit and the number and frequency of future treatments will be discussed. In addition, herbal medicine may be prescribed. It is imperative you inform our herbalist of any medications or supplements your pet is taking to assure it does not interact with the herbal medicine.
